I Love Turf Project – Installation of Nara Native Zoysia as fire retardant at The Retreat, north of Peregian Beach, Queensland

Project Specifications:

Turf Variety – I Love Turf supplied Nara Zoysia
Surface Area – 2000m2

Details:
The Retreat is a collection of 21 beach houses at the northern end of Peregian Beach. The resort needed a low maintenance firebreak between it and the 70 metre-wide belt of native scrub along the dunes that separates it from the beach.

The managers chose Nara Native Zoysia for its low mowing, salt tolerance and drought efficiency traits.

One of just two commercially available Australian native grasses, Nara Native Zoysia thrives in coastal environments.

It is also known for being attractive to wildlife and its deep rhizomes make it resistant to damage from the grazing wallabies and kangaroos that are common in the area.

I Love Turf supplied the turf as 60cm by 1.2m slabs and installed it, pinning turf on the steeper sand dunes with biodegradable pegs. The installation required significant preparation, including tree removal and a new irrigation system over several days, but the turf was laid in just two hours.
